ESSENTIAL Guide to Essential Oils

ESSENTIAL Guide to Essential Oils

We all know that there can be health benefits of using essential oils in the right way. For centuries, we have benefitted from the power of plant based products and medicines. With essential oils being the foundation of all our formulations, here’s our guide to understanding what these nectars of mother nature can offer when used in aromatherapy and beyond:

Eucalyptus:

Known for easing congestion and alleviating cold symptoms, Euchalyptus is a highly concentrated oil that's steam-distilled from the leaves of the evergreen tree native to Australia. Its been used medicinally since around 1788 by the indigenous population who chewed the roots and drank eucalyptus tea as a remedy for fever.

In the 1800s, eucalyptus oil was prescribed for respiratory conditions and for tired, sore muscles, and to ease the pain of arthritis.

Its key natural component 1,8-cineole (aka cineole and eucalyptol), is responsible for its clean, sharp, slightly medicinal smell as well as its medicinal value. It has been shown to have antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties and contributes to healing wounds making it ideal for minor cuts and grazes.

Like many essential oils, eucalyptus oil is also being investigated for its use as a pain reliever.

Lemongras:

With its powerful, citrus scent, lemongrass oil is extracted from the leaves and stalks of the lemongrass plant. It has been used to treat digestive problems and high blood pressure as well as helping relieve stress, anxiety and depression. Its antibacterial properties help heal wounds and help prevent infection and studies have found it to be an effective deterrent against four types of fungi in the right concentration.

The super oil also boasts anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties thanks to the citral and the dried leaves are often found in herbal teas to help relieve nausea.

Sweet Orange:

Sweet Orange Essential Oil has several benefits including improving digestion and promoting a feeling of warmth and happiness when used in aromatherapy. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties, helps reduces anxiety and boosts mood as a natural anti-depressant. Low level exposure to diffused orange oil can help alter moods and enhance motivation, relaxation and clarity – as with all essential oils, always seek advice before use.

PLEASE TAKE PROFESSIONAL ADVICE BEFORE SELF ADMINISTERING ESSENTIAL OILS. ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES AND CONCENTRATIONS – FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY AS DIRECTED.
